Evading financial censorship - Bitcoin got me some 3d printer parts that my bank wouldn't let me order.
Was trying to order some parts from Prusa - if you don't know them, they are a very reputable manufacturer of 3d printers. They produce one of, if not the best desktop FDM 3d printer, and have a list of awards as long as my arm. I've ordered stuff many times from them with my card before, the printer itself along with various upgrades and supplies. They have a very good reputation. It's not like I'm trying to buy stuff off Silk road here. This time, I tried to order some new upgrades, and secure 3d came up saying that my bank thought the transaction was suspicious and that they may send me a text. They never sent me a text, the transaction got blocked. Guessing my bank doesn't like Prusa for some reason (maybe because they are from Prague?) It certainly wasn't an out of character transaction for me. I went back to payment methods and noticed they accept Bitcoin. Paid and it cleared within a few minutes, parts are on the way. I figure it makes a good example of how financial censorship can effect even "normal" people, people who aren't out to buy drugs, guns, etc...I just wanted some parts for my printer.

Bitcoin since 2013. I was here before many people. I have been through more bulls runs than a spanish matador. I went through the worst bear run in Bitcoin's history in 2013. (And because I was scared, didn't accumulate more during that time). I get it. Yet I still have this question. What will BTC be used for? If you are the BTC maximalist type that thinks BTC will replace fiat and be used to buy chipotle and socks, then you are mistaken. Bitcoin will NEVER be used as THE main currency in the western world. If you have purchased BTC as an investment. And you think it will continue to go up over time, why would you buy socks with it? Those socks will be worthless in 2 years. And if BTC continues to rise, those socks will be more expensive in 2 years. The merchant who sold those socks to you just sold a worthless item for an appreciating asset. We've already seen this. In 2010 Two Papa Johns pizzas were bought for 10,000 BTC. My first thought is, Papa Johns pizza is nasty. They literally ate some BTC and flushed it down the toilet. My 2nd though is, those 2 pizzas are now the equivalent of the most expensive home in the world. So buying everyday items with BTC is never going to be a thing that the average person does. BTC also doesn't scale. Even if people wanted to buy coffee with it, the TPS is not high enough to transact that much volume. The network would be too congested. And please don't talk to me about Lightning. It is unproven and at this point not a solution. That could change in the future. So that leaves what I feel are the best 2 use cases for Bitcoin. A. Digital gold B. Paying off debt Bitcoin solves the weight issue and jurisdictional issues when it comes to moving large amounts across borders. You are not getting on a flight with a million dollars worth of gold or even cash. But you can get on a flight with as much BTC as you care to take with you hypothetically speaking. That solves a problem. A bigger problem in my opinion is the damage done to the environment by extracting gold. Large areas of earth are destroyed and dangerous levels of mercury are released by extracting tiny amounts of gold (and other metals). Most miners simply leave after destroying and are not tasked with "replacing the earth" that they destroyed. Eventually, they will run out of places to dig. BTC harms no one when its mined. It does produce heat. And it uses a ton of electricity, but electricity is a renewable energy. BTC will eventually replace Gold as a speculative asset. Gold has physical properties that will make it useful, but as a spec asset it has no future. Something is only worth something when others want to buy it. The demand must be higher than the supply. Most of the gold industry is supported by the fact that people like shiny things. What happens when people stop liking shiny things? If hologram technology ever becomes common, and someone has the ability to put an image of the gaudiest piece of jewelry on, then that sector of the gold industry disappears. We already have the ability to 3d print things. How long before 3d printers are fast enough to where you can 3d print simple items like jewelery? My point is, Bitcoin can easily replace the spec part of gold trading. Is that enough? The 2nd use case is paying for debt. This one is easy. Imagine having a student loan of $100,000 when you graduate. And in 10 years when you pay it off BTC is worth 10 times what it was 10 years ago. Now your student loan bill is only $10,000. But in each of these cases it doesn't have to be BTC. It could easily be something else. BTC has first mover advantage. The only reason big money is pouring in (which I find ironic that crypto people now actually WANT bank people involved when BTC was invented to be anti bank) is because they are not intelligent about crypto. BTC is not the best crypto by any technical standards that we use to measure crypto. It just happens to be first. Will that last forever? Most people are still looking at BTC as a spec investment. But in order for it to truly have long term viability it must have more use cases than digital gold, and paying down debt. What other use cases do you see?
Georgia Tombstones (Part 2) by Jayge 8^J "Project Blue Beam is a conspiracy theory that claims that NASA is attempting to implement a New Age religion with the Antichrist at its head and start a New World Order, via a technologically-simulated Second Coming. The allegations were presented in 1994 by Quebecois journalist and conspiracy theorist Serge Monast, and later published in his book Project Blue Beam (NASA). Proponents of the theory allege that Monast and another unnamed journalist, who both died of heart attacks in 1996, were in fact assassinated, and that the Canadian government kidnapped Monast's daughter in an effort to dissuade him from investigating Project Blue Beam. The project was apparently supposed to be implemented in 1983, but it didn't happen. It was then set for implementation in 1995 and then 1996. Monast thought Project Blue Beam would be brought to fruition by the year 2000, really, definitely, for sure. The theory is widely popular (for a conspiracy theory) on the Internet, with many web pages dedicated to the subject, and countless YouTube videos explaining it. The actual source material, however, is very thin indeed. Monast lectured on the theory in the mid-1990s (a transcript of one such lecture is widely available), before writing and publishing his book, which has not been reissued by his current publisher and is all but unobtainable. The currently available pages and videos all appear to trace back to four documents: A transcript of the 1994 lecture by Monast, translated into English. A GeoCities page written by David Openheimer and which appears to draw on the original book. A page on educate-yourself.org, compiled in 2005, which appears to include a translation of the book from the French. Monast's page in French Wikipedia. The French Wikipedia article is largely sourced from two books on conspiracy theories and extremism by Pierre-André Taguieff, a mainstream academic expert on racist and extremist groups. From these few texts have come a flood of green ink, in text and video form, in several languages. Even the French language material typically does not cite the original book but the English language pages on educate-yourself.org. However, conspiracy theorists seem to use quantity as a measure of substance (much as alternative medicine uses appeal to tradition) and never mind the extremely few sources it all traces back to. Proponents of the theory have extrapolated it to embrace HAARP, 9/11, the Norwegian Spiral, chemtrails, FEMA concentration camps and Tupac Shakur. Everything is part of Project Blue Beam. It's well on its way to becoming the Unified Conspiracy Theory. Behold A Pale Horse, William Cooper's 1991 green ink magnum opus, has lately been considered a prior claim of, hence supporting evidence for, Blue Beam by advocates. The book is where a vast quantity of now-common conspiracy memes actually came from, so retrospectively claiming it as prior evidence is somewhere between cherrypicking and the Texas sharpshooter fallacy. However, the following quotes, from pages 180-181, intersect slightly with the specific themes of Blue Beam: It is true that without the population or the bomb problem the elect would use some other excuse to bring about the New World Order. They have plans to bring about things like earthquakes, war, the Messiah, an extra-terrestrial landing, and economic collapse. They might bring about all of these things just to make damn sure that it does work. They will do whatever is necessary to succeed. The Illuminati has all the bases covered and you are going to have to be on your toes to make it through the coming years. Can you imagine what will happen if Los Angeles is hit with a 9.0 quake, New York City is destroyed by a terrorist-planted atomic bomb, World War III breaks out in the Middle East, the banks and the stock markets collapse, Extraterrestrials land on the White House lawn, food disappears from the markets, some people disappear, the Messiah presents himself to the world, and all in a very short period of time? Can you imagine? The world power structure can, and will if necessary, make some or all of those things happen to bring about the New World Order. “Without a universal belief in the new age religion, the success of the new world order will be impossible!” The alleged purpose of Project Blue Beam is to bring about a global New Age religion, which is seen as a core requirement for the New World Order's dictatorship to be realised. There's nothing new in thinking of religion as a form of control, but the existence of multiple religions, spin-off cults, competing sects and atheists suggest that controlling the population entirely through a single religion isn't particularly easy. Past attempts have required mechanisms of totalitarianism such as the Inquisition. Monast's theory, however, suggests using sufficiently advanced technology to trick people into believing. Of course, the plan would have to assume that people could never fathom the trick at all — something contested by anyone sane enough not to swallow this particular conspiracy. The primary claimed perpetrator of Project Blue Beam is NASA, presented as a large and mostly faceless organization that can readily absorb such frankly odd accusations, aided by the United Nations, another old-time boogeyman of conspiracy theorists. According to Monast, the project has four steps: Step One requires the breakdown of all archaeological knowledge. This will apparently be accomplished by faking earthquakes at precise locations around the planet. Fake "new discoveries" at these locations "will finally explain to all people the error of all fundamental religious doctrines", specifically Christian and Muslim doctrines. This makes some degree of sense — if you want to usurp a current way of thinking you need to completely destroy it before putting forward your own. However, religious belief is notoriously resilient to things like facts. The Shroud of Turin is a famous example that is still believed by many to be a genuine shroud of Jesus as opposed to the medieval forgery that it has been conclusively shown to be. Prayer studies, too, show how difficult it is to shift religious conviction with mere observational fact — indeed, many theologians avoid making falsifiable claims or place belief somewhere specifically beyond observation to aid this. So what finds could possibly fundamentally destroy both Christianity and Islam, almost overnight, and universally all over the globe? Probably nothing. Yet, this is only step one of an increasingly ludicrous set of events that Project Blue Beam predicts will occur. Step Two involves a gigantic "space show" wherein three-dimensional holographic laser projections will be beamed all over the planet — and this is where Blue Beam really takes off. The projections will take the shape of whatever deity is most predominant, and will speak in all languages. At the end of this light show, the gods will all merge into one god, the Antichrist. This is a rather baffling plan as it seems to assume people will think this is actually their god, rather than the more natural twenty-first century assumption that it is a particularly opaque Coca Cola advertisement. Evidence commonly advanced for this is a supposed plan to project the face of Allah, despite its contradiction with Muslim belief of God's uniqueness, over Baghdad in 1991 to tell the Iraqis to overthrow Saddam Hussein. Someone, somewhere, must have thought those primitive, ignorant non-Western savages wouldn't have had television or advertising, and would never guess it was being done with mirrors. In general, pretty much anything that either a) involves light or b) has been seen in the sky has been put forward as evidence that Project Blue Beam is real, and such things are "tests" of the technology — namely unidentified flying objects. Existing display technology such as 3D projection mapping and holograms are put forward as foreshadowing the great light show in the sky. This stage will apparently be accomplished with the aid of a Soviet computer that will be fed "with the minute physio-psychological particulars based on their studies of the anatomy and electro-mechanical composition of the human body, and the studies of the electrical, chemical and biological properties of the human brain", and every human has been allocated a unique radio wavelength. The computers are also capable of inducing suicidal thoughts. The Soviets are (not "were") the "New World Order" people. Why NASA would use a Soviet computer when the USSR had to import or copy much of its computer technology from the West is not detailed. The second part of Step Two happens when the holograms result in the dissolution of social and religious order, "setting loose millions of programmed religious fanatics through demonic possession on a scale never witnessed before." The United Nations plans to use Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" as the anthem for the introduction of the new age one world religion. There is relatively little to debunk in this, the most widely remembered section of the Project Blue Beam conspiracy, as the idea is so infeasible. Citing actual existing communication technology is odd if the point is for the end product to appear magical, rather than just as cheap laser projections onto clouds. This hasn't stopped some very strange conspiracy theories about such things popping up. Indeed, the notion of gods being projected into the sky was floated in 1991 by conspiracy theorist Betty J. Mills. And US general (and CIA shyster extraordinaire), Edward Lansdale, actually floated a plan to fake a Second Coming over Cuba to get rid of Castro. Step Three is "Telepathic Electronic Two-Way Communication." It involves making people think their god is speaking to them through telepathy, projected into the head of each person individually using extreme low frequency radio waves. (Atheists will presumably hear an absence of Richard Dawkins.) The book goes to some lengths to describe how this would be feasible, including a claim that ELF thought projection caused the depressive illness of Michael Dukakis' wife Kitty. Step Four has three parts: Making humanity think an alien invasion is about to occur at every major city; Making the Christians think the Rapture is about to happen; A mixture of electronic and supernatural forces, allowing the supernatural forces to travel through fiber optics, coax, power and telephone lines to penetrate all electronic equipment and appliances, that will by then all have a special microchip installed. Then chaos will break out, and people will finally be willing — perhaps even desperate — to accept the New World Order. "The techniques used in the fourth step is exactly the same used in the past in the USSR to force the people to accept Communism." A device has apparently already been perfected that will lift enormous numbers of people, as in a Rapture. UFO abductions are tests of this device. Project Blue Beam proponents believe psychological preparations have already been made, Monast having claimed that 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Wars and the Star Trek series all involve an invasion from space and all nations coming together (the first two don't, the third is peaceful contact) and that Jurassic Park propagandises evolution in order to make people think God's words are lies. The book detailed the theory. In the 1994 lecture, Monast detailed what would happen afterwards. All people will be required to take an oath to Lucifer with a ritual initiation to enter the New World Order. Resisters will be categorised as follows: Christian children will be kept for human sacrifice or sexual slaves. Prisoners to be used in medical experiments. Prisoners to be used as living organ banks. Healthy workers in slave labour camps. Uncertain prisoners in the international re-education center, thence to repent on television and learn to glorify the New World Order. The international execution centre. An as yet unknown seventh classification. Joel Engel's book Gene Roddenberry: The Myth and the Man Behind Star Trek was released in 1994, shortly before Monast's lecture on Project Blue Beam: “In May 1975, Gene Roddenberry accepted an offer from Paramount to develop Star Trek into a feature film, and moved back into his old office on the Paramount lot. His proposed story told of a flying saucer, hovering above Earth, that was programmed to send down people who looked like prophets, including Jesus Christ.” All the steps of the conspiracy theory were in the unmade mid-'70s Star Trek film script by Roddenberry, which were recycled for the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Devil's Due, broadcast in 1991. There is no evidence of deliberate fraud on Monast's part; given his head was quite thoroughly full of squirrels and confetti by this time, it's entirely plausible that he thought this was the revelation of secret information in a guise safe for propagation. However, the actual source was so obvious that even other conspiracy theorists noticed. They confidently state it was obvious that Monast had been fed deceptive information by the CIA. A cosmetic surgeon used a scalpel to place a microchip in his left hand, and his family doctor injected a chip into his right hand using a veterinary Avid injector kit. Graafstra uses the implants to access his home, open car doors, and to log on to his computer. With public interest growing, in 2013 he launched biohacking company Dangerous Things and crowdfunded the world's first implantable NFC transponder in 2014. He has also spoken at various events and promotional gigs including TEDx, and built a smartgun that only fires after reading his implant. Alejandro Hernandez CEO of Futura is known to be the first in Central America to have Dangerous Things' transponder installed in his left hand by Federico Cortes in November 2017. Mikey Sklar had a chip implanted into his left hand and filmed the procedure. Jonathan Oxer self-implanted an RFID chip in his arm using a veterinary implantation tool. Martijn Wismeijer, Dutch marketing manager for Bitcoin ATM manufacturer General Bytes, placed RFID chips in both of his hands to store his Bitcoin private keys and business card. Patric Lanhed sent a “bio-payment” of one euro worth of Bitcoin using a chip embedded in his hand. Marcel Varallo had an NXP chip coated in Bioglass 8625 inserted into his hand between his forefinger and thumb allowing him to open secure elevators and doors at work, print from secure printers, unlock his mobile phone and home, and store his digital business card for transfer to mobile phones enabled for NFC. Biohacker Hannes Sjöblad has been experimenting with NFC (Near Field Communication) chip implants since 2015. During his talk at Echappée Voléé 2016 in Paris, Sjöblad disclosed that he has also implanted himself between his forefinger and thumb and uses it to unlock doors, make payments, and unlock his phone (essentially replacing anything you can put in your pockets). Additionally, Sjöblad has hosted several "implant parties," where interested individuals can also be implanted with the chip. Researchers have examined microchip implants in humans in the medical field and they indicate that there are potential benefits and risks to incorporating the device in the medical field. For example, it could be beneficial for noncompliant patients but still poses great risks for potential misuse of the device. Destron Fearing, a subsidiary of Digital Angel, initially developed the technology for the VeriChip. In 2004, the VeriChip implanted device and reader were classified as Class II: General controls with special controls by the FDA; that year the FDA also published a draft guidance describing the special controls required to market such devices. About the size of a grain of rice, the device was typically implanted between the shoulder and elbow area of an individual’s right arm. Once scanned at the proper frequency, the chip responded with a unique 16-digit number which could be then linked with information about the user held on a database for identity verification, medical records access and other uses. The insertion procedure was performed under local anesthetic in a physician's office. Privacy advocates raised concerns regarding potential abuse of the chip, with some warning that adoption by governments as a compulsory identification program could lead to erosion of civil liberties, as well as identity theft if the device should be hacked. Another ethical dilemma posed by the technology, is that people with dementia could possibly benefit the most from an implanted device that contained their medical records, but issues of informed consent are the most difficult in precisely such people. In June 2007, the American Medical Association declared that "implantable radio frequency identification (RFID) devices may help to identify patients, thereby improving the safety and efficiency of patient care, and may be used to enable secure access to patient clinical information", but in the same year, news reports linking similar devices to cancer caused in laboratory animals had a devastating impact on the company's stock price and sales. In 2010, the company, by then called "PositiveID", withdrew the product from the market due to poor sales. In January 2012, PositiveID sold the chip assets to a company called VeriTeQ that was owned by Scott Silverman, the former CEO of Positive ID. In 2016, JAMM Technologies acquired the chip assets from VeriTeQ; JAMM's business plan was to partner with companies selling implanted medical devices and use the RFID tags to monitor and identify the devices. JAMM Technologies is co-located in the same Plymouth, Minnesota building as Geissler Corporation with Randolph K. Geissler and Donald R. Brattain listed as its principals. The website also claims that Geissler was CEO of PositiveID Corporation, Destron Fearing Corporation, and Digital Angel Corporation. In 2018, A Danish firm called BiChip released a new generation of microchip implant that is intended to be readable from distance and connected to Internet. The company released an update for its microchip implant to associate it with the Ripple cryptocurrency to allow payments to be made using the implanted microchip. In February 2006, CityWatcher, Inc. of Cincinnati, OH became the first company in the world to implant microchips into their employees as part of their building access control and security system. The workers needed the implants to access the company's secure video tape room, as documented in USA Today. The project was initiated and implemented by Six Sigma Security, Inc. The VeriChip Corporation had originally marketed the implant as a way to restrict access to secure facilities such as power plants. A major drawback for such systems is the relative ease with which the 16-digit ID number contained in a chip implant can be obtained and cloned using a hand-held device, a problem that has been demonstrated publicly by security researcher Jonathan Westhues and documented in the May 2006 issue of Wired magazine, among other places. The Baja Beach Club, a nightclub in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, once used VeriChip implants for identifying VIP guests. The Epicenter in Stockholm, Sweden is using RFID implants for employees to operate security doors, copiers, and pay for lunch. In 2017 Mike Miller, chief executive of the World Olympians Association, was widely reported as suggesting the use of such implants in athletes in an attempt to reduce problems in sport due to drug taking. Theoretically, a GPS-enabled chip could one day make it possible for individuals to be physically located by latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, and direction of movement. Such implantable GPS devices are not technically feasible at this time. However, if widely deployed at some future point, implantable GPS devices could conceivably allow authorities to locate missing persons and/or fugitives and those who fled from a crime scene. Critics contend, however, that the technology could lead to political repression as governments could use implants to track and persecute human rights activists, labor activists, civil dissidents, and political opponents; criminals and domestic abusers could use them to stalk and harass their victims; and child abusers could use them to locate and abduct children. Another suggested application for a tracking implant, discussed in 2008 by the legislature of Indonesia's Irian Jaya would be to monitor the activities of persons infected with HIV, aimed at reducing their chances of infecting other people. The microchipping section was not, however, included into the final version of the provincial HIV/AIDS Handling bylaw passed by the legislature in December 2008. With current technology, this would not be workable anyway, since there is no implantable device on the market with GPS tracking capability. Since modern payment methods rely upon RFID/NFC, it is thought that implantable microchips, if they were to ever become popular in use, would form a part of the cashless society. Verichip implants have already been used in nightclubs such as the Baja club for such a purpose, allowing patrons to purchase drinks with their implantable microchip. In a self-published report anti-RFID advocate Katherine Albrecht, who refers to RFID devices as "spy chips", cites veterinary and toxicological studies carried out from 1996 to 2006 which found lab rodents injected with microchips as an incidental part of unrelated experiments and dogs implanted with identification microchips sometimes developed cancerous tumors at the injection site (subcutaneous sarcomas) as evidence of a human implantation risk. However, the link between foreign-body tumorigenesis in lab animals and implantation in humans has been publicly refuted as erroneous and misleading and the report's author has been criticized over the use of "provocative" language "not based in scientific fact". Notably, none of the studies cited specifically set out to investigate the cancer risk of implanted microchips and so none of the studies had a control group of animals that did not get implanted. While the issue is considered worthy of further investigation, one of the studies cited cautioned "Blind leaps from the detection of tumors to the prediction of human health risk should be avoided". The Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs (CEJA) of the American Medical Association published a report in 2007 alleging that RFID implanted chips may compromise privacy because there is no assurance that the information contained in the chip can be properly protected. Following Wisconsin and North Dakota, California issued Senate Bill 362 in 2007, which makes it illegal to force a person to have a microchip implanted, and provide for an assessment of civil penalties against violators of the bill. In 2008, Oklahoma passed 63 OK Stat § 63-1-1430 (2008 S.B. 47), that bans involuntary microchip implants in humans. On April 5, 2010, the Georgia Senate passed Senate Bill 235 that prohibits forced microchip implants in humans and that would make it a misdemeanor for anyone to require them, including employers. In the U.S., some Christian activists, including conspiracy theorist Mark Dice, the author of a book titled The Resistance Manifesto, make a link between the PositiveID and the Biblical Mark of the Beast, prophesied to be a future requirement for buying and selling, and a key element of the Book of Revelation. So heres Attempt III to explain my near-future earth scenario, plz be warned, I have failed to properly explain myself, and I expect people to be a bit agitated, its not my intention, I just understand through trial and error, that I can often forget to show working logic from A->D, so feel free to point out the glaring gaps, and I'll attempt to include B&C where relevant] I'm building up some concepts for a near future plot, In the background of the plot is earth approx 2025-2050: Key points of technology that are currently available I would like to be obvious enough to the reader, without specifically pointing it out..
Mobile Apps and Websites have all added mining software using Crypto mining, as a result users in effect pay for the service by merely having the service on their phones running. (in real Life, Angular 7 allows a cryto miner to exist in a PWA, allowing anyone using their mobile app to be earning the app owner cryto currency)
Since cryto-currency earns a set of 50-100 or so phones 1 bitcoin a month (current Technology has shown that older models of phone are being used by miners to set up rigs that indeed do this), this is more profitable than Adds, so its more likely that a Free App, that is useful to the user will likely result in more usage which in turn will mean more bitcoin mined by company, so adverts become almost obsolete (2030?)
Since the only cost to running the app is Electrical Power, and in an effort to get people to use their apps, companies will likely offer cash incentives to use their apps, thereby creating a new kind of currency, i.e. get paid to run the app, buying and selling Electricity would be the core, instead of acquiring and using cash, to consume or trade because most of society uses electricity to do anything.
I think, and maybe I'm wrong that Solar systems would become the new 'income' to power their apps to earn crypto(2035-2045).
As power is also used for 3D printing, and the currency earned is used to buy the raw goods for printing, but since print plans are merely electronic, torrent sites start having 3D printables category(I've seen that even now), so people can print up their own goods.
p.s. I have personally witnessed a 3D printer, print a 3D printer which then printed chocolate in 3 colours, so I don't doubt that 3D printing soy food, plastic goods, clothing are too far off, with robots able to manufacture goods, we are likely to see 3D printers include assemblers which would be able to 'put together' more complex objects. These are things 'going on' in the background of my main plot, I will show them somehow through the story, and if anyone throws in some cool ideas they'd like to see, I'll surely include them in the book with relevant shout-outs, I'm trying to find logic holes and hopefully plugs for said holes, thanks anyone for participating.

My first 30 days running a Bitcoin only E-commerce business.
The MineNinja store, www.mineninja.com, has been up for a month now, so I figure its a good time to reflect on the whole experience of running a business that accepts Bitcoin exclusively. I’ve run other E-commerce websites, mainly selling digital products for PayPal. In my previous experiment I tried adding Bitcoin payment to one of my best performing products and honestly got less than stellar results even offering a huge discount. After studying the market I determined that a better path was to offer a product that would appeal to one of the core segments of the Bitcoin participant population: Bitcoin miners. The MineNinja is a Bitcoin mining controller for managing USB connected ASIC devices. I underestimated how difficult the whole process would be from manufacturing to shipping. The first few orders were very painful to fulfill. There were many late nights spent trying to dial in the packaging and shipping. 3d took some time to get dialed in correctly, and we threw away a ton of failed prints. It was a great learning experience. I also learned that keeping everything denominated in Bitcoin is risky. When the price of Bitcoin fell, and I didn’t update my pricing quick enough, we had sales that resulted in a net loss. I could eliminate this risk by pricing in USD, but it’s a matter of principle to keep it all Bitcoin. I didn’t do any sort of advertising, no Adwords or anything like that. All I have done is just a few posts on bitcoin and Bitcoin related forums. I did a total of 28BTC worth of sales for the first month. The USD denominated supplies were personally funded. I am trying to keep all the BTC earnings in BTC. I am moving my supply chain to Bitcoin as practical. I found a cool 3d Printer company www.makergeeks.com that accepts Bitcoin payments so next month’s personal finances will be a little better. I’m still having to pay USD to buy the boards as I have not yet found a supplier that accepts Bitcoin payment. I don’t think my decision to go with a completely open source solution hurt sales too badly. Most customers chose the more expensive ready-to-mine options over the build-your-own. I got hit hard for BeagleBones when the BTC price dropped, and I didn’t adjust prices, but thankfully my low inventories and a recent rebound in price insulated me from disaster. Now that I have shut down my GPUs, I can move the business from the dining room table to the room we now refer to as the "crap room." The big weekend project is to clean it out and convert it into the CoinNinja headquarters. I’ve got quite a few cool things planned for the MineNinja project and other CoinNinja Open Source projects. It seems there could be a need in the bitcoin market for a low cost, simple, open-source bitcoin mining full node that is aimed at bitcoin enthusiasts. Maybe this is something we can crowd-fund as a community. Something like this could go quite a way to give users a bigger voice/vote in all this scaling controversy by making them miners as well. It would also make it easier for users to run full nodes. It seems the closest thing to this product concept right now is the [21inc bitcoin computer]() but the price and complexity of the device makes it only really suitable for developers. Hey all! GoodShibe here! One of the key principles of the DOGE4DOGE campaign has been trying to help people remember to re-buy whatever Dogecoin that they spend and use. I can see a whole lot of Dogecoin moving around, being given to charitable causes and whatnot but I do find myself wondering how much we're picking back up off of the exchanges once it's been dumped there. Buy it, spend it/tip it, re-fill it. And, yes, sometimes that's easier than others, getting into the process of buying Dogecoins can be a hassle -- especially when converting from Fiat. But considering that the vast majority of us collected here are already 'believers', taking the time to get yourself set up on an exchange (as we work to simplify the buying process) isn't all that much to ask. Some simple ways to help contribute?
Try setting yourself a Dogecoin goal. "I'm going to try and maintain a 'base level' of Dogecoin, no matter what" then buy up what you need when you get low.
Find and ask for more ways to use your Dogecoins.
sh2003 just shared with me Cleanitsupply - a US-based company that allows you to buy home essentials (cleaning supplies and more) with Dogecoin. This, unfortunately, only seems to serve the US - but it's a great start! The more options we have, the more stores allowing us to buy actual, useful items (remember that request list that we built last week?) the better off we'll all be. Find it, buy it, send your DOGEs, re-buy your DOGEs. It's through actions like these that we can start to un-stick the gears and get our DOGEconomy rolling. The big question, the sort of elephant in the room, that I'm sensing as of late -- especially as mining becomes more difficult -- is 'why am I converting fiat to Dogecoin if I'm just re-buying Dogecoin?' One of the sort of interesting observations that I've had, especially as we see those early easily-gotten Dogecoin mining funds dry up from various outreach efforts, is that there's a sort of real hesitation to spend 'real' money on Dogecoin. Again, not a criticism, just an observation. What it puts forward is this idea that, well, it's a lot easier to spend free money. Now, to be fair, it's a criticism that's been shared amongst pretty much every other coin as well, but it's one thing that seems to be coming more pronounced with Dogecoin. I'm thinking it's because the halvenings are so frequent, the coin supplies hit so hard at first and then, well, halved -- again and again -- it made it harder for people to re-supply themselves for 'free'. Now that it's starting to cost 'real' money to get involved, for the average person, it's not as attractive. Especially as we've yet to find our own 'killer app' that you MUST have Dogecoin to use. This is, well, it's a symptom of our 'awkward teenage years' so to speak. You know that fun part of puberty where things don't always seem to be growing at the same rate -- some things look lop-sided and/or gangly and/or 'different'. We're in that phase where we're in the process of growing up to be whomever we're going to be as an internet currency. Now's the time for us to get out there and get active, start working on that financial six-pack, maybe read some great books so that we'll have something interesting to talk about when other currencies come calling. Because, like puberty, it's a fine balance of internal and external growth. The work done now can, quite literally, re-shape how you look and feel and interact with the world as an adult. For real decentralization, at the level of society, there's only four things that need to be decentralized in a censorship resistant manner, and everything else falls into place-
Electrical Power. The ability to cut off people from electrical power is basically a threat to throw anyone out of the modern era, and basically ensures a great deal of compliance. Power generation and storage must be decentralized for real independence to happen. Thanks to solar, wind, and batteries though, this is already happening. Moving on.
Finance/Money. Bitcoin is a good start, by disintermediating the Fed and the banks, but the government can see the blockchain as well as you or I and watch your every economic move. They can use that to control people. Bitcoin can also be disrupted by a investment by government in mining equipment. A 51% attack on Bitcoin wouldn't even by expensive by Defense Department standards; a small fraction of the NSA's budget would do it. When Bitcoin or a competitor solves these two problems though, then you'll see some sh*t.
Information sharing. BitTorrent is great, but again it is not anonymous enough. The IP enforcers can watch and squash people. Universal adoption of something like Demonsaw, ZeroNet, or IPFS, over Tor though will be much harder to squash. Sharing CAD designs and 3D-printing instructions and media without censorship will bypass government and corporate control over supply chains.
Transport. If you can communicate with someone directly, and transfer value to them directly, the last remaining peace of the puzzle is to receive some goods from them directly. Right now pretty much everything in the USA goes through FedEx, UPS, or the USPS. Other countries are similarly centralized. This will soon be solved by self-driving transport. Self-driving Teslas get the shiny trade press, but the real game-changer will be a self-driving cargo truck that takes any package from point-to-point, for anonymous e-cash, no questions asked. (You might have to post a bond though that it's not a bomb)
That's it. If you can solve those things, everything else gets decentralized as a matter of course. You can't decentralize Ebay or Amazon until you decentralize money, IP, and transport, but once you do -- Want to bypass Monsanto for seed varieties? Order them online, pay anonymous e-cash, receive them by drone. Want to build stuff? Download the instructions for a Maker Space and order the machine tools just like those seeds. Want a given medicine? There's a chemist in Oregon who makes that; he lives somewhere in the Willamette Valley and has thousands of positive reviews. Etc. Decentralists should be focused on these four things, IMO. 3D-printers are nice, but if you can't power them, buy feedstock for them, or download CAD designs freely, then the 3D-printer is only as useful as the censors allow it to be. Solve these four things though, and you'll only be a dependent on government or a major corporation as you want to be.
A Deep Dive into the Drone Vertical What will the future look like? With all of the innovations being developed today, people often wonder what our near future will look like and which technologies will be implemented on a large scale to simplify and improve our lives. Let me paint a picture… It is the year 2035 and Bob is looking forward to visiting his friend Alice. Upon waking, he goes into the bathroom to brush his teeth and receives the latest news through his bathroom mirror. Bob lives in Paris but Alice lives in Amsterdam in a house built using 3D-printer technology. Bob could arrive at Alice’s house using an autonomous car service or take a drone helicopter taxi. But instead of traveling for six hours, he decides to use the Hyperloop and pay for his ticket with Bitcoin. Traveling by Hyperloop will only take 30 minutes! At the Hyperloop station, a Humanoid robot preps Bob for his ride by giving him specific details. When Bob arrives, Alice is bed bound due to an unfortunate electric scooter accident. But she pre-approved Bob’s entrance to her home using his smartphone so Alice doesn’t have to trouble herself. So what do you think? Does this slice of the future seem possible to you? I certainly believe it is; developers are already working on developing and tweaking all of these solutions. So it’s quite possible that they will be regulated and implemented into our society in the next 20 years. Let’s take a look at recent developments in the drone industry with an emphasis on projects that may change our lives for the better. To get everyone up to speed, I’ll provide a brief history of drones. History The first drone or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was created by the Austrian military during World War I. The idea was to fill unmanned balloons with bombs and have them explode in the enemy’s territory. And the United Nations World Food Program is a firm believer in deploying cargo drones to help feed those stuck in war zones. Ambulance Drone Healthcare Industry Drones in the healthcare industry have already proven to be very useful in life-threatening situations. In the future, small indoor drones will be used to deliver the required daily medicine to bed-bound patients or nutritious, fresh meals to the elderly who cannot cook their own meals. In Rwanda, the Ministry of Health has teamed up with Silicon Valley-based robotics company, Zipline, to start the “Uber for blood”, a drone delivery service that delivers blood to hospitals in need of blood. If services run smoothly, Zipline will start another pilot in Tanzania. TU Delft University is developing an Ambulance Drone, a “flying toolbox” carrying supplies for advanced life support. The drone can transform into a fully functioning automated external defibrillator (AED). As research has shown, the first few minutes after someone suffers a heart-attack are critical. By calling the emergency services, the ambulance drone can be deployed immediately to the person in need. Police Drone Government Solutions Drones can be helpful to a police department on many fronts, like: monitoring hostile situations, locating victims after a disaster with the help a thermal camera-equipped drone, helping with the reconstruction of a multiple-car traffic accident, monitoring a crowd or analyzing a crime scene. And, according to pilot studies, fire departments can benefit from using drones to fight fires by connecting to hoses from water trucks on the ground, reaching far higher than ladders. Energy Industry Drone developments in the energy industry are also ongoing. Drones are cleaning wind turbines, which can improve production by up to 20%. By mapping oil spills or even locating potential oil and gas sites, drones can be used to simplify processes and lower cost. 29 years old bad shape financially. What should I do from this position?
Hey, 29 years old. Single. No job, no car. $0 debt. Bachelor's in political science. No student loans. $5000 savings. Assets worth more than $1000: 1 ar-15 rifle, supplies venison every few months for the last two years. Ammunition is reloaded by scavaging spent brass from local outdoor shooting area. (Only use about 5 rounds per take, est. Cost per shot is $0.13) Been unemployed for the better part of two years with no prospects. Currently: weld (Tig) side jobs (made it it's a converted stick welder from Craigslist free section) , mine Bitcoin and immediatly sell to coinbase ~ $200 every few months , freelance cad since I learned it in college , and 3d print items to put on etsy (monoprice.miniselect printer found labeled as a kitchen appliance sold for $14 at goodwill) , as well as sell thrift store items on ebay (mostly old designer items Hermes ties and a lot of Maison Martin Margiela) . Income is not steady. It is less than $1000 a month. Additional income: food stamps $200 month Health insurance is low income medi-cal. What do I do from here? I use the internet And power from Starbucks (I don't buy anything I just put water in a plastic reusuable cup they sell for a dollar and put it near my laptop while i plug in the Bitcoin miner and hidenit with my.backpack while posting ads for side jobs and sending in applications everyday.
... I knew people wouldn't read it all, but I hoped they would read the where it gets interesting, and where I would like an opinion out of you. From the capitalist side, I would like to know the feasibility of such an economy, and structural problems I might have missed (with possible corrections). From the socialists, other ways to implement it socially.From everyone willing to share it, their opinion. If you still don't care enough, There will a corollary at the end, so just skip to that.
The basic problem with communist governments is that they were forcefully centralized. In order to coordinate the country, they needed to have it in their hands. Now the situation is different. Think, as an example, at how automation could be implemented stately to reduce wealth gap. The same jobs I was referring before, the Mc Donalds cashier, the mechanical worker, could now be fully automatized. I always here the complain ''don't you think a manual job is respectable as anyone else?'', but I personally think working a job that a machine could do is even more demeaning. The reason we can't implement automation right now is because it would take over those same jobs, creating an incredible social crisis in the present situation. These jobs need to exist only for someone to do them and get paid just what they need to survive. China is going around this, funding billions into automation, but they're just cheating by putting all of that production into export, with no real gain for the individual. What I think we should be looking at is a decentralized resource based economy, in which we have a definite supply of primal resources, a ''blockchain'' of ways to turn them into products, and an expected trend of REAL demand of the product themselves. I'm now looking into ways to structure a monetary economy around (and beyond) the original ideological standpoint of ''creating an infrastructure that provides people their basic needs'', which is something you can only do industrially. Talking it from a cryptocurrency perspective (since I'm also looking for pragmatic means to achive this in a restricted setting even today), I would consider making a whole submarket of coins, each one with their own tie with a real product, their own trendlines and economical structures. This way, you could for example arbitrage the price of food to stay low, while maintaining the robotical field as a competitive investing market. What you would sell, at this point, wouldn't be the product itself, as much as the idea, the blueprint of real product you are trying to ''replicate on the blockchain''. The producing tools are automatized and free for everyone on the blockchain to use (with limits due to facts real resources are finite), like a big net of 3D printers which get inputs from the blockchain itself.
Politics are here to mediate the gap between economy and society, but this doesn't need to be done ''externally'', with taxes, neither you can leave all the industries to the ''workers'', because workers won't exist anymore and because technology is too fast to be caught on by small companies. And now, a corollary of possible practical implementations to make it clearer, tho I will surely miss some this way:
Automate every kind of work that can be automated (of course manufactured products would still have their value, but no assembly line job anymore)
Collectivize and at the same time decentralize the means of production, as we can now start imagining doing.
At this point you have to choose how ''generous'' you want your system to be, and how many things the ''system'' is going to control (and provide). This can range a lot in the amount of restrictions, and be decided accordingly. The way I envision it, I could imagine cities growing automatically provided housing or self driven car hubs that you call to your location, but this doesn't mean you're not entitled to your own private propriety. If anything, remember that in industrialized countries there are more houses than people living in them.

When you ''spend'' your money in the according market, that gets burned from the total supply, the blockchain gets a record to it, and sends a production input to either an automated production line, or even your ''personal 3D printer'' (at some point in the future, and depending on what ''product'' you're buying.) You would then set inflation for each coin according to the variation in the real theoretical supply of the product and distribute that new money according to the leading ideology of such country (which I would hope to be ''socialist'').
The political point is, the ''system'' doesn't need to be centralized to be able to provide welfare, you just need to build an organic infrastructure to support your economy . The ''equilibrium between economy and society'' that is politics, must be structured. And to avoid making this second post ALSO too long to read, I will avoid talking about job restructuring, education, and ''first and second generation'' of people living in such a state if we considered a sudden switch to it. Please, read at least the important bits.
